Scalp micropigmentation or SMP has helped a lot of men (and women) gain their confidence back when it comes to their hair. This procedure makes use of pigments to give the illusion that the head has hair growing on it. This is different from getting your head tattooed, as this procedure uses pure pigments to make it seem like you are growing your hair back.
Getting a shiny-looking head after an SMP procedure is normal, but a lot of people don't want that. Below, we will give some tips to follow so your head won't end up like that after getting a full micropigmentation in Las Vegas.
Shave Properly
If you have a completely bald head, chances are it would be a lot harder for you to fight the shine. But, there is one thing you can try to make your head shine-free. When shaving, make sure to shave along with the direction of your hair strands. You can also try dispensing with a wet blade rather than using an electric shaver. If you have some hair left on your scalp, then you might want to avoid shaving all of it so you would not get an extremely shiny scalp. Try to leave at least half an inch or even an inch of hair so it can help counter the shine.
Exfoliate
The scalp naturally produces sebum, and there is little that we can usually do about it. However, if you want to get rid of the shine, try exfoliating your head every once in a while. This will help get rid of the extra oil that your scalp is producing, making your head a little less shiny. Do not overdo it, though, as overexfoliation can be harmful to your skin. Exfoliate just once to twice a week.
Wipe the Sweat Off
Sweat can make your head extra shiny, so always carry a towel or handkerchief around. This is especially important if you are going to the gym, as you are likely to sweat a lot when working out. If you want to prevent the shine after working out, then wash your head immediately with a little bit of shampoo and water. Make sure to wipe it with a clean towel to keep your head dry and shine-free.
Use the Right Products
There are products in the market that can help counter the shine on your head, and these might be worth giving a shot. Try a mattifying cleanser if the shine is bothering you a lot. These can be a little bit more expensive than your usual cleanser, but it gives off that matte effect. Additionally, you should avoid oil-based sunscreens and thick moisturizers, as these can make your scalp produce a lot of extra sebum. Ask your dermatologist or even your SMP technician on what products you should use to prevent getting a shiny scalp.
Remember that oil is not your enemy, especially when it comes to your skin and scalp. It helps your skin and scalp become moisturized, so don't be bothered if your scalp is a little bit shiny. However, if the shine is bothering you a lot, then go ahead and try these tips above.
