Mom Care: Self-Care Activities You Might Need

Whether you are a full-time mom or a working mom, chances are you haven’t gone to a salon or spa in the last three to six months or so. When was the last time you actually treated yourself to a nice manicure and pedicure or a girls’ night out with your friends? Most moms tend to neglect their own well-being for many reasons. It may be because they are too busy at work, too busy at home, or just plain feeling guilty about having a good time once in a while.

In most cases, it’s not that mothers do not want to take care of themselves. Sometimes, being selfless makes them forget that they, too, need some love and care. As a mom, you should not be afraid of taking a break every once in a while, because you need it too. There are tons of ways you can spoil and treat yourself a little because you definitely deserve it and you earned it.

Planning to go out and splurge a little on yourself? Here are some ideas you may want to consider:

Skincare

When you look in a mirror, do you notice those fine lines slowly forming on your forehead? Or maybe you had those pesky little white and blackheads you’ve been ignoring for quite some time now. Most of us do not really want to look older than we really are. So perhaps this is the best time to start investing in good skincare products you can include in your routine.

If you are cash-strapped, fret not. There are many products that won’t break the bank. Just be sure to have the basics such as cleanser, toner, eye cream, moisturize, and sunscreen. You can do away with eye creams, but they are extremely helpful in smoothing out those creases and crow’s feet gradually forming around your eye.

Spa makeover

Once every month, you should dedicate a day to relax such as going to the spa. Have some gray hair you want to cover up? Want to try a new hairstyle? Then go for it! There’s a lot you can do at a spa in just a day. Whether you want to get a nice massage followed by a mani-pedi or try out new hair color, this can be a monthly routine you can follow to have some much-needed “me time.”

Cosmetic enhancements

Post-pregnancy stretch marks, flabby arms, and love handles, and thinning eyebrows all make us uncomfortable and insecure about ourselves. There are ways you can make them look less unsightly, but some procedures won’t be cheap.

Non-invasive cosmetic enhancements such as lip and eyebrow tattoo are not expensive and can make promising results. You can also get some lip fillers injected to add some volume to your lips. If you have the money and you have more complex concerns from post-pregnancy physical changes, there are many procedures you can opt for to solve your concerns. Just be sure to discuss this thoroughly with your doctor. For example, you can undergo a mommy makeover session to get your glow back.

Exercise or gym membership

Not everyone is willing to spend or have the budget to go under the knife. Luckily, you can still get rid of those excess fats through physical exercise. You might think that you do not have the time for it, but a thirty- to sixty-minute workout routine three to four times a week can actually yield amazing results.

You can either follow some workout routines from tons of free workout apps or sign up for a gym membership and get a professional gym trainer who can tailor a specific program for you.

There are many benefits to exercising such as improved moods, managed stress levels, not to mention toned and sculpted muscles! You are also setting an example to your family to live a healthier and better lifestyle.

It may be hard to find some time to relax or look after yourself when you already have kids and a husband to take care of and look after. But remember, it is also important to take care of yourself because you are the backbone of your family. Dedicating a time or day for yourself can actually help you do your responsibilities as a wife and a mom better.
